Coimbatore: No other day could be more auspicious than Mahashivrati to unveil the world’s largest face statue of the first adiyogi- Lord Shiva. The 112 feet tall idol, which as officials say, weigh 500 tonnes will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow. The largest Mahashivratri celebrations in the country will also see PM lighting the sacred fire to commence the Maha Yoga Yagna across the world. According to Sadhguru, the founder of Isha Foundation, Jaggi Vasudev, 112 because it symbolises 112 ways in which one can attain to one’s ultimate through the science of yoga. On this day, 1 million people will take an oath to teach a simple form of yoga to at least 100 people each in the coming year, and touch atleast 100 million people before the next Mahashivratri.
Around 2.5 years were spent to design the glorious face of Shiva and the foundation’s in-house team built it in eight months. ” The face of Lord Shiva is made of steel. Essentially, we have taken small pieces of metal and put it together. This is very hard way to do it, but it is the most inexpensive. This is unique. It hasn’t been used elsewhere”, Vasudev said earlier.
The consecration of the adiyogi will happen at Isha Yoga Centre at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains and lakhs of devotees are expected to attend.
After tomorrow’s ceremony, the Isha Foundation plans to have the idols in three other parts of the country as well.
