Kim Kardashian West wished ‘Happy Birthday’ to Armenian Queen Cher by posting her iconic pictures on social media. On her 71st birthday, more than 20 tributes were posted by the 36-year-old reality star. Not just Kim, Jennifer Lopez also used social platform to pay homage to the starlet. For those who do not know about Cher or Cherilyn Sarkisian, here is the brief:
Popularly known as the Goddess of pop, American singer and actress Cher is known for her distinctive singing style and appearances during her five-decade-long career. She first gained popularity with her husband for their song, ‘I Got you babe’ in 1965. It was number one on the American and British charts. Her first solo song ‘Bang Bang (My baby shot me down)’ in 1966 was also quite a hit. She established herself as a solo artist with the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping singles ‘Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves’, ‘Half-Breed’, and ‘Dark Lady‘. The year 1979 brought huge popularity to Cher. Her disco-oriented album ‘Take me home’ earned $300,000 a week for her 1980–82 residency show in Las Vegas. Her career in films also won her many awards. She reached a new commercial peak in 1998 with the album Believe, whose title track became the biggest-selling single of all time by a female artist in the UK.
Outside of her music and acting, she is noted for her political views, philanthropic endeavours and social activism, including LGBT rights and HIV/AIDS prevention.
