‘He Was Always Worried About The Immigration Laws’, Says Wife Of Indian Killed In Us

'He was always worried about the immigration laws', says wife of Indian killed in US

Sunayana Dumala, wife of the killed Indian engineer in Kansas on her first official post on facebook articulates the havoc of tragedy, her husband’s unfulfilled dreams, his fears related to the immigration laws and ends it with a question in everybody’s mind, “DO WE BELONG HERE ? Is this the same country we dreamed of and is it still secure to raise our families and children here ?”.
Sunayana, working in US also explained how she and Srinivas Kuchibhotla struggled to start their lives in US, then moved to Kansas from a small town Cedar Rapids and husband’s anxiety about the immigration laws. She wrote, ” He was always worried about immigration and it’s laws. He followed them very closely over the Internet. There were days when he used to talk about how it’s been quite a few years since we applied for our permanent residency card, and he didn’t know how much longer we have to wait for it. He very closely monitored the H4 EAD rule and did whatever he could do in his capacity for the rule to be passed- not just for me, but for every woman and for those who deserve a career and a chance to fulfil their dreams. He was filled with joy when the rule passed and was so happy that he said, ” Nani (nickname of Sunayana), now you can follow your own dreams and make your parents proud”.

She brought Srinivas Kuchibhotla‘s body to Hyderabad to perform his last rites this week who otherwise would have celebrated his birthday on 9 March and attended a cousin’s wedding in New Jersey. Even though heart-broken, she is determined to return to the US to fulfil his dreams. ” Thanks to the Mayor for your kind words. I was told by congressmen Yoder and Senator Moran that you were working on my immigration status. This is my Srinu’s dream, and for this I have to come back to the USA”, she wrote.

Her post assumes that the US authorities may not allow her to enter the country, since she was on H4 dependent visa. However, she has made her decision to go back to the country where husband and wife together built their dream house.
