Another alleged crime strikes Goa; Irish girl found dead in a nude state

A 28-year old Irish girl was found dead in a nude state by a local man, at an isolated spot in Adnem on Tuesday morning. The girl has been identified as Daniel McLeughim, who was staying at Arambol. Police of Canacona is not denying the possibility of rape before murder. The deceased body has been sent to the Goa Medical College and hospital, for an autopsy, after which only the real cause of the death will be confirmed. Meanwhile, police is doing it’s investigation,”Considering the state in which the body was found, and the injuries visible on her face, we concluded that it was a case of murder,” Canacona police said.

The death of Daniel is reminiscent of Scarlett Keeling case, who was allegedly drugged and raped before murder. The 15-year old teenager died on Anjuna beach in February, 2008, where she had gone to attend the Valentine’s Day party. Her mother Fiona demanded for CBI investigation after Goa police concluded it to be a drowning case. It was later in the second post-mortem that rape before murder was confirmed. Around 52 injury marks were there on her body which was found in a semi-nude state at world-famous Anjuna beach.

The levels of crime in Goa against and by foreigners has been increasing rapidly in the last years. It’s beautiful beaches have been becoming the hub for drug peddlers. It also topped the list for the highest number of foreigners arrested under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act in the year 2014 and the crime doesn’t seem to slow down since then. Now, what steps the new CM of Goa, Manohar Parrikar would take to keep the crime under control is the need of the hour.
