Alleged Racial Hatred Takes Life Of An Indian-Origin Engineer In The Us

Kansas, US: In a shocking incident on Wednesday night, an Indian engineer was shot dead by a US Navy veteran. 32-year-old Srinivas Kuchibhotla was sitting with his friend Alok Madasani in Austin Bar and Grill in Olathe, Kansas when a whiteman sitting nearby started hurling racists remarks on them, according to reports. Being upset and angry, Srinivas tried to stop him. After fifteen minutes, the culprit Adam Purinton, 51, returned to the restaurant with a gun. He allegedly shouted at Srinivas, “Get out of my country.” He then pulled the trigger. While Srinivas could not be saved, his companion got badly injured and was admitted to the hospital. Another whiteman, a bystander Ian Grillot, who tried to intervene in what seems to be a racist attack was also injured in the shooting.

The accused, who was high on drinks later told the bartender of an Applebee’s restaurant (where he was hiding) that he had killed two Middle Eastern men. The bartender then called the police.Alleged Racial Hatred Takes Life Of An Indian-Origin Engineer In The UsThe External affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj condemned the killing and tweeted ” I am shocked”. She has promised to help in bringing back Srinivas’ body to his native place Hyderabad.

Srinivas worked as an aviation program coordinator manager at Garmin headquarters in Olathe and was on H1B visa in the country.

Although the accused was arrested on Thursday morning charged with premeditated murder, the first senseless violence in Trumps’s administration has raised many questions on the security of Indians living in the United States. Just few days back, memos were laid out by the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) in the US to deport the undocumented Indian-Americans and now this sudden tragedy has opened the doors for debate again.
